Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dr. Cat Begovic, Founder of Dr. Cat Plastic Surgery, located in Beverly Hills, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Mother, Wife, Plastic Surgeon, Harvard & UCLA Graduate, and Creator of MD GLAM, Dr. 90210 on E! My business is my private practice, Dr. Cat Plastic Surgery, located on Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills, and I help my patients find confidence with refined plastic surgery. I am known for the meticulous surgical techniques that I've developed over years of experience, natural-looking results with minimal bruising, thin and barely visible scars, and virtually painless surgeries. My gentle surgical technique ensures that patients have a quick recovery with little to no pain so they are able to return home and to their normal activities as soon as possible.
I have many patients from Los Angeles and the surrounding areas, and I also have many patients who fly to Beverly Hills from all over the world to receive the celebrity plastic surgery experience. Regardless of if my patient is a celebrity or is on camera, most of my patients want to have a natural look, which is my specialty. No matter who they are or where they come from, my practice treats every patient like a VIP.
My other business is my scientifically formulated skincare line, MD GLAM. MD GLAM products combine the most effective, scientifically proven anti-aging and hydrating ingredients to improve the way skin looks and feels. I have put the same love and passion into taking care of my patients and their surgeries as I have put into every step of creating this skincare line that I am so proud and excited about. My MD GLAM customers are women of all ages who want to take care of themselves and their skin with simple, effective, anti-aging skin care. They are paraben-free, sulfate-free, and cruelty-free. MD GLAM products are clean, safe, and gentle, and I feel comfortable even using them on my own daughter.
Tell us about yourself
I always knew I wanted to be a surgeon. Even as a child, one of my favorite games was Operation, and I loved watching surgery videos on the Discovery channel. I have always loved challenges, precise work that requires intense concentration and meticulous attention to detail, and caring for people. I believe that it's a calling. Plastic surgery is my destiny. With my first exposure to surgery when volunteering at the local hospital in high school and stepping into the OR, I knew I couldn't do anything else in life.
For me, being a surgeon is more than using a scalpel or suturing. It's more than changing a part of someone's body, removing excess fat and tissue, or creating a different shape for someone's face or body. For me, being a surgeon is sharing a life-changing transformation, improving someone's quality of life, and taking care of a patient every step of their journey. I never take for granted the trust that my patients place in me, and I consider it a great privilege to be able to be a part of their transformation. My favorite part of my job is the close relationship that I have with my patients.
As a plastic surgeon, I meet women every day who choose more invasive ways of achieving their aesthetic goals, but I feel that daily skin care maintenance is critical to looking young and beautiful and slowing the aging process. MD GLAM is an extension of myself and my way of reaching out and helping women take care of themselves, feel amazing, and be the best possible version of who they are.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the ability to bring purpose and meaning into my work. This defines not only what I pursue from day to day but what I want my life to be about. Knowing that what I do helps people feel better about themselves is my primary measure of success as a business owner.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Learning how to integrate other values and areas of life with running a business. I value being a loving mom and wife. I value taking care of my health and being there for people that need me outside of my work. It is hard, and it requires a conscious choice to be better at balance.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
I often get emails and messages from students or young people asking for advice on life or how to become a surgeon or from doctors asking for advice on how to open a private practice. The best advice I can give is to always stay strong and never give up. In those moments when you feel the most tired, the most frustrated, or the most disappointed - dig deep and find the strength to keep pushing ahead. Know that those moments are the ones that define you and your future success.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
The only way to do great work is to love what you do. For me, my love is plastic surgery. No matter what your destiny is, whether in medicine or any other field, always follow your heart! You'll never regret it!
