Untie Knots and Develop Perspectives - Down to Earth
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Kerstin Hack, Founder of Down to Earth, located in Berlin, Germany.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Many people struggle with fears, i.e., fear of public speaking, fear of flying, fear of spiders... you name it. As an emotions coach, I help them overcome fears very fast and for good. Fast means: 2 hours of coaching per fear. I work with clients on my houseboat in Berlin but also via Zoom. I work in my mother tongue German but also in English, which I studied at University.
Tell us about yourself
For more than 20 years, it has been my passion to find the most effective tools to help people live their lives in a better way. I have written more than 10 books and dozens of training manuals published by www.down-to-earth.de and other publishers. Once I learned that there are ways to deal with fears that are way more effective and long-lasting than traditional methods of therapy or coaching, I went for it. And it is my joy and motivation to see the shining and surprised faces of my clients saying: "I can almost not believe it...but I really feel better. The fear is gone!" And I love to hear long-term reports of clients that tell me about lasting change: "I no longer automatically cross to the other side of the street when someone with a dog is coming along. The fear is gone." "I no longer fear being in an elevator." "Flights are fine now!"
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
It is twofold. As an author and publisher: Having written and publishes almost a Million books and training manuals. As a Coach: Seeing people set free.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The intractability. For example, I publish a beautiful advent Calendar. One year sales were really high. Next year they dropped to one-third. To reduce risk, I have established services that provide a predictable income - like a membership that people pay for annually. That helped.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- FOCUS: Be very, very clear about what problem you solve and who is your favorite client and your offer.
- STRENGTHS: Aim at spending 80% of your time in your zone of genius: What you are good at and what you love. Start right from the beginning to NOT do 100% of the work.
- SUCCESS: As a visionary/starter, you may look at what you WANT to achieve and get frustrated when you are not there yet. You never will be. Goals are like the horizon. They keep moving when we get closer. Make sure that you regularly - ideally daily - look at what you did achieve and feel healthy pride/content about it. Looking at your achievement fills your body with some testosterone - which gives you additional strength to keep going.
