What's your business, and who are your customers?

DotConnect is a boutique, female-founded recruitment consulting company renowned for its values-aligned, personalized talent acquisition services, deeply integrated within client organizations to understand and meet their specific hiring needs. Our customers range from tech startups to nonprofits to DTC lifestyle brands.

Tell us about yourself

I began recruiting at the age of 17 after graduating high school early and wanting a "real job." I had no idea that my first "real job" would become my long-term career path and eventually be what I built my first business around. What has kept me in the game for so long is that humans are complex, and no two clients or candidates are the same. So, I have interesting conversations every day and hear people's stories, their triumphs, and their challenges. That keeps it interesting!

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment was creating a company culture that thrived and that people LOVED to be a part of.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Navigating the unknown and leveraging the information you have available to you at the time, with no perfect playbook and no perfect outcome. We're all just doing the best we can.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Invest in yourself (coaches, mentors, communities, masterminds) and find your people.
  2. Define your vision first, then values, and find people who are aligned with both as you scale your team. You might make some hiring mistakes, and that's OK. But don't negotiate when it comes to values alignment.
  3. Lead yourself first. Look in the mirror and love what you see so you can lead from that place.
