Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in digital communication but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dianne Myles, Owner of Dope Mom Life, located in Aurora, CO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Dope Mom Life helps our clients connect with various communities by creating authentic messaging. Our digital video content production, community relationship building, and ambassador network allow clients to build a bridge to their target audiences and create meaningful connections.

Tell us about yourself

DML started as a mommy vlog to be a representation for my community to see us reflected in a positive light doing adventurous activities and being a Dope Mom. It grew into the video production company that does all of our work through an asset-based lens. I found that our stories are often told by someone who doesn't look like us and often makes us look like we aren't the heroes of our stories, and I wanted to change that narrative. I do the work I do because I love telling our stories, and I have two amazing humans watching me.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is growing my team to 7 people while doing great work in the community.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is being responsible for your income and, as you grow a team, being responsible for other people's livelihoods. I have to make sure not just my family eats but that my team eats, and I like to eat well.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Build authentic relationships. Your network is indeed your net worth.
  2. Find a mentor in your industry, and have a list of ways you'd like them to help you grow.
  3. Find people that are smarter than you and who are experts, and bring them to your team.
