Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Donna Nucci, an infection prevention consultant based in Old Saybrook, CT, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I provide expert guidance and infection prevention programming for surgery centers and other healthcare organizations providing patient care.

Tell us about yourself

I started when a gap was identified in the private surgery center sector. Providers could not find nurses or experts who truly understood the complex field of infection prevention. I am a certified infection preventionist which requires extensive training and experience. Not many infection preventionist have specific operating room experience or program development expertise.

I am motivated to keep patients safe and have good outcomes. I also work with my clients to keep employees safe from exposure to bloodborne pathogens. It's a passion project, for sure.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Expanding nationally to help surgery centers remotely.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Keeping up to date on the most recent guidance and protocols. Systemizing and making content engaging and digitalized.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Be passionate about the service you provide.
  2. Expect to spend time engaging with clients if that is your sector- open up and be real and relatable.
  3. Do not quit your day job until you know you can afford to do so.
