By Skaters for Skaters - Domain Premium Apparel

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in clothing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Nick Murphy, Owner of Domain Premium Apparel, located in Orlando, FL, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Domain Premium Apparel is a skateboard lifestyle apparel brand based out of Central Florida. Skater-owned and for creatives, free thinkers, and anyone who appreciates quality threads. We're for the people, all people—no matter of race, religion, or creed.

Tell us about yourself

I'm a skateboarder of over 20 years, and what motivated me to create my own business was seeing my friends around me in the skate community launching their small businesses—creating cool brands that folks wanted to be a part of, young or old. But, probably the most significant motivating factor is the creative element of running a business. I also design and screen print most of our designs and merchandise. I'm a man of many "hats," and I enjoy the challenge of running a business. Getting up daily and putting something that's an idea into reality is rewarding and motivating.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner? Well, being featured on Subkit's Go Solo, of course! That and selling our goods nationally across the United States.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things is dealing with adversity, like when things aren't going right on a project, or sales just aren't where you wanted them to be for the quarter. But we persevere and rise above. The key to success is never giving up.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

One, have good people around you. You can't do it all on your own all the time. Two, treat people with respect and consistently reward those who are loyal; they're the ones who genuinely care about the brand. Three, have fun. If it's not fun, don't do it. You also have to love it to make it through the hard times, and times will get hard.
