What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am an executive coach and public speaker. My coaching clients are CEOs, presidents, and founders of companies. My public speaking clients include associations, large corporations, event organizers, and civic groups.

Tell us about yourself

I was the head basketball coach at the University of North Carolina. In 2001 we had a great season, and I was voted AP National Coach of the Year. Two years later, I was asked to resign. I went on a leadership journey turning my “Pain into Passion.” The more I learned about leadership, the more I realized it needed to be taught to everyone that runs any organization. I am motivated to make a positive impact on the people I meet and the groups I work with.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is when I make an impact on a business leader. To see them get better is very fulfilling.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things about being a business owner is staying disciplined with your “flywheel.” Make sure you focus on the things that make your business successful.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Find a mentor.
  2. Join a peer advisory group like Vistage.
  3. Read.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Your life is impacted by three things:

  1. The people you meet.

  3. The trauma in your life.
