What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Dog Eat Cake, an all-natural dog bakery featuring hand-made, custom dog treats and birthday cakes for local pickup and shipping. Dogs deserve to party too, and we need to celebrate them! I have the best clients in the world- DOGS!
Tell us about yourself
I am originally from Boston and started my career in fashion and styling. I also wrote for various Boston publications as a fashion consultant while also holding jobs in the hospitality industry. Ultimately, the two merged while I was looking for a new path. I taught myself to bake, and along with my branding skills, Dog Eat Cake was born. I am motivated daily by my clients and the wonderful dogs they share with me. I feel lucky to be a small part of their celebrations.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner was the day I was able to quit my second job as a dog walker. I finally felt secure enough to stand on my own and really put myself out there. I always wanted to own a business I built and am proud of. It took a lot of hard work, but I am so happy doing what I am doing.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things about owning a business is the constant worry- am I doing enough? I am constantly thinking about my business, and there can be more of a balance with that so you can recharge.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Believe in yourself and your vision. In the beginning, just keep your head down and work.
- Fake it till you make it.
- Love what you do because it will be your life.
