What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is DJ Eupnea Candle Company. We pair 100% natural soy wax candles with a custom Spotify playlist with each scent. My goal for each person buying a DJ Eupnea candle is to have a full experience. There is nothing like lighting a candle, taking a deep breath in, and transporting yourself through music. Connecting to yourself through scent, sound, and focus.

It is important to me that every candle is made with ingredients that are beneficial to your body and space. Every candle is vegan, cruelty-free, toxin-free, and never tested on animals. Our playlists are curated to make you forget about the outside world and immerse yourself in the beats.

Tell us about yourself

Hi! My name is Alexis, and my business started with the idea of creating something that ignites peace and happiness in your soul! Lighting a candle calms the mind and improves our mood. Each scent creates an ambiance and transforms how we feel in a space. Music frees our minds. It allows us to disconnect and find our own little happy world. Listening to our favorite songs has a beneficial effect on brain chemicals and allows us to feel euphoric.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is the ability to be creative and express myself in unique ways. I remember when I sold my very first candle-a rush of excitement swept through my whole body, and I hoped this product I created would bring someone the same happiness it brought me!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The number one thing would be marketing. Putting yourself out there and taking the chance on something you believe in! The second is balance. I am a wife, mother, and now business owner. Having the love and support of family while sharing in the excitement and being part of the process has been extremely rewarding.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Believe in yourself and your ideas.
  2. Find something you are passionate about and learn all about it.
  3. Most importantly, have so much fun doing it!
