Spark Your Inner Goddess - Divine Goddess Soaps
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in skincare but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dana Massar, founder of Divine Goddess Soaps, located in Arvada, CO, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Divine Goddess Soaps does not have a traditional origin story. I did not set out to have a handmade bath and body business. It simply happened by accident. I love to bake. I mostly love decorating cupcakes, but I'm not too fond of frosting. It's fun to decorate with, but I find it to be overly sweet. I needed to find a different creative outlet because I had difficulty giving away my baked goods. One night I was watching my sister's kids at her house, and I decided to take a shower. She had a bar of handmade soap, and I fell in love with it. The next day I decided to learn how to make soap. I came across a video of someone making cupcakes out of soap, and the rest, as they say, was history.
We live in a world that is constantly hustling and bustling, and it can seem overwhelming to even the strongest person. Now more than ever, it is essential to carve out little moments of luxury. We must do this to unwind, recharge, and face the next day with the strength, grace, and divinity we inherently hold within ourselves. I created a line of spa products to help every deity do just that. Whether you enjoy soaking in a hot bath like Cleopatra or have only enough time to wash your hands, I have something special for you.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Dana Massar, and I am a licensed cosmetologist, but more importantly, I'm the top Goddess here at Divine Goddess Soaps. I wanted to create a line of soaps, shower steamers, and premium spa products that set your soul on fire and spark your inner deity. Over the years, I've worked with many people who struggled to find their balance, so I have channeled my artistic inclinations with my formally trained experiences to offer you a company that is dedicated to your beauty inside and out.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is proving to myself that I can do it. We all have that inner saboteur telling us that we can't do something because of XYZ, and quieting those voices can be one of the hardest things when starting an entrepreneur's journey.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Finding balance is one of the hardest things in being a business owner. Gone are the days of 9-5; now, it's more like 24/7. I love what I do, so it is easy for me to lose myself in my business, but I have found that if I close the room to my soap studio and tell myself, I am taking today off, I can find a bit more work-life balance and not try to do all the things every day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Surround yourself with people who support you. Whether online or in-person, it is essential to have people you can depend on who will lift you up.
- Take time for yourself! As an entrepreneur, it is very easy to devote everything to your business, but you are the most critical part of your business, so take care of yourself.
- Never stop learning. If you are running the show like me, alone, keep learning and researching. You may find a new tool or program that can save you time and money.
