Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Alishia Alibhai, owner of Divine Bliss, located in Calgary, AB, Canada

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My mission is to support people on their journey towards personal growth, healing, and transformation. Through Divine Bliss, I hold both private sessions and group workshops. I offer Soul Coaching sessions and certifications, past life sessions, Reiki sessions and certifications, and guided meditations. I teach about aromatherapy and how pure essential oils can support the body, mind, and spirit.

My typical customers are individuals seeking spiritual growth and looking to shift and transform their lives and connect deeper with their souls. Being a business owner has allowed me to give back in meaningful ways. For example, I offer free guided meditations on my website, and a number of the live group workshops I host are by donation (we ask people to make a donation to their favourite charity in exchange for attending)!

Tell us about yourself

My desire to understand and help people first drew me to the field of Psychology. While completing my Ph.D. in Psychology, I recognized that I was especially drawn to more alternative and holistic forms of healing that weren't typically taught in universities.

So after completing my Ph.D. in 2009, I followed my heart and opened my own business through which I continue to offer Soul Coaching sessions and certifications, past life exploration classes, Reiki energy healing, group guided meditations, and aromatherapy workshops. What truly motivates me is seeing my clients heal, grow and transform. And it inspires me to know that it has not only impacted their life but also blessed the lives of those they know through a beautiful ripple effect.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment is serving and helping people. It brings me a lot of joy to know that a session, a workshop, or a particular essential oil I recommended has made a significant difference in someone's life.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

I feel that one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner is that it's not just about doing the thing you love. You also need to consider all of the "behind the scenes" aspects of operating a business (e.g., website, accounting, leasing a space, payment systems, customer database, advertising/marketing, etc.). There are a lot of things that a business owner needs to ensure are taken care of that may be outside of their area of expertise.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do what you love and are passionate about, and you will find success.
  2. When you are doing what you love, it's easy to pour everything into your business, and it's especially important to schedule time for yourself, so you don't get burnt out. Self-care is so important.
  3. Consistency is also important. When it's your own business and you don't have a boss standing over you, it can be easy to get distracted or off track. Setting goals, having a schedule, and being consistent are key!
