Collaborative Mental Health Care - Divergent Wellbeing
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Elizabeth Mateer, Founder of Divergent Wellbeing, located in Seattle, WA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Divergent Wellbeing is a group psychotherapy practice in the greater Seattle area. We serve the mental health needs of those within the LGBTQ+ community and beyond, focusing on identity, relationships, sexuality, gender, depression, and anxiety.
Tell us about yourself
I started Divergent Wellbeing as a welcoming and affirming place to seek therapy for those who may have felt judged or marginalized elsewhere. I stay motivated by setting yearly and quarterly goals, sticking to my daily to-do list, and engaging in self-care when I'm not working.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Creating the open and supportive culture our practice has. It is truly a joy to work with the amazing team of clinicians and staff we have that believe in the vision of Divergent Wellbeing.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Patience. Things worth doing take time and consistency. I'm an action-oriented person, and it can be frustrating not to see immediate results, but consistency and trusting the process and steps put in place have always paid off.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't wait until you're not afraid to start because you won't ever be.
- Communicate your needs and expectations clearly, don't expect others to read your mind.
- Appreciate and vocalize your appreciation to everyone who engages with your business, shares or likes a post, or works with you. All I have done is provide the framework and structure of Divergent Wellbeing; a business is only successful because of the people who engage with it.
