Providing Clarity Throughout Your Organization - Ditto
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Marquis Murray, Founder of Ditto, located in Toronto, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are Ditto. Our customers are mainly Marketing & Ecommerce teams but we've had clients from all different industries.
Tell us about yourself
My journey began by building the necessary systems within my previous Marketing Agency, Media Crate. I found that the need to create order in the chaos was a common trend that I saw with my clients and this discovery helped me to realize my true passion (operations) and eventually led me into a career creating SOPs, process workflows, and automations to make work easier. This is where Ditto was born. We shifted into the world of process improvement and have never looked back.
I get excited each time we wrap up our client projects because I know great work has been done by our team. And this means that the clients are trained, supported and ready to launch. It is tangibly helping and improving people's work lives and businesses. I help creative entrepreneurs live the life of freedom they started their businesses to achieve.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Being able to care for and put my family first.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Going through my first venture as a business owner was eye-opening for so many reasons. There were lots of lessons that I learned the hard way, but that equipped me with the knowledge to know how to approach those issues the next time. I learn new things about myself every day, and like everyone, March 2020 had its challenges, but one thing I learned is that I will do just about anything for my family and those that I love. If that means staying up all night working on the business or working a job cleaning hot tubs so we can make ends meet, there is no length I won't go to in order to provide my kids with the kind of life that I know they deserve.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Stop saying yes to everyone. Your time is precious, and if you say yes to everyone and everything, you dilute your message, offering, and focus.
- If it's not aligned with your vision, you're not interested. You no longer have time to entertain people or shiny objects that aren't going to help you grow or promote your company.
- Become a master at a few things. Don't try and be an expert at everything for everybody. Know your strengths and do them well.
