Learn, Heal, Grow - Discover Yourself Wellness Center
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in mental wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shanna Evering, Owner of Discover Yourself Wellness Center, located in Columbia, MD, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
At Discover Yourself Wellness Center, our mission is to provide compassionate and quality mental health services to help our clients with emotional, behavioral, or adjustment concerns. The services we provide are grounded in health psychology, and we strive to treat the whole person.
Tell us about yourself
I wanted to create a group practice where new therapists could have a safe place to learn the art of counseling. As a therapist, I trust the process and recognize that helping clients and supervisees move through painful experiences provides an opportunity for growth and transformation. It’s important to me that the ones I work for feel safe, seen, heard, and respected. When you develop a relationship with a caring, attuned therapist/supervisor/business owner, you will find new ways to solve problems, heal old wounds, and change the way you live life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner would include our current plans to open a second location. We're in the process of opening a second location in Houston, Texas, where we can continue to expand our knowledge of health psychology. We'll be in the heart of the Texas Medical Center.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The most challenging part of being a business owner is finding balance in your personal life. It's hard to take time off and feel confident in work getting done on time and accurately.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure you're personally connected to and/or passionate about the nature of your business. It will help you to enjoy all the long hours and hard work that goes into running and growing a business.
- Learn to delegate tasks and accept help from others.
- Learn from your mistakes, so you don't repeat them.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Leadership is a lonely place, so make sure to surround yourself with non-work-related friends and relatives in your personal life. It's important to maintain this part of yourself.
