What's your business, and who are your customers?
I run Dirigo Food Safety, and we help food businesses be well lead and profitable. My customers are CPG brands, restaurants, retailers, and manufacturers who don't want to kill their customers with their food!
Tell us about yourself
I started out after serving as a veterinarian in the Army. As an Army Officer, I audited food companies. When I got out of the service...I created my business as an extension of my work inspecting. I decided to help small food businesses pass their audits so they could grow their business.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The number of people I've helped be happier at work while doing better work that helps them realize their dreams.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Hands down...managing cash flow!
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Decide who you want to be while running your business.
- Understand that most of your profit comes from running on a scale, not 1:1.
- Creating relationships is the most important work you will do.
