Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Elisabeth Guentert Bay, co-founder of Dimutara: The Art of Healing, located in Grand Forks, BC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a center for learning, experiencing, and healing. We learn from the nature within (body, mind, and spirit) and the nature around us (the five elements, the plant, animal, and spirit kingdom). Our tools are the Expressive Arts, Spiritual Psychology, and Subtle Energy work. Our goal is holistic healing.
Dimutara offers a 2-year holistic training for the whole person. Our goal is to facilitate people in their process towards a healthy and resilient body and emotionally stable, balanced, and loving self, with an open, non judgmental mind.
Tell us about yourself
My first private practice “Healing Arts Therapy” founded in 1991, is
rooted in the fields of Psychotherapy (C.G. Jung, Dream Work, Gestalt Therapy, Psycho-Synthesis), Expressive Arts Therapy (Life/Art Process, Breath Therapy, Feldenkrais, Sensory Awareness, Sound Therapy), and Alternative Medicine (Nutrition and Herbs, Tibetan Massage, Energy Work).
I moved to Canada, BC, in 2000 with the vision of Dimutara. This vision embraces the utmost necessity for a deeper understanding, respect, and healing of the relationship between humans and the Earth (Gaia). Our goal is to live in conscious community and co-creation with the Earth, seeing ourselves as an “integral part of” – rather than “ruler over” the Earth.
With my partner, we are combining life and work, our passion, engagement, and expertise in the fields of healing arts, spiritual psychotherapy, sustainable living, horticulture, and geomancy.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We have gently developed our rural acreage and built an amazing seminar house in a spiral shape. The building reflects our commitment to natural and sustainable building. What we teach we live is our slogan.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I'm an expert in the healing process and the expressive arts and not so inclined to do the advertising part of the business. I believe in truth and honesty and won't make compromises in false advertising.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start only a business with what you really know and feel passionate about it.
- You need financial support and a lot of perseverance.
- Always check if you still are on board emotionally, mentally, and physically and can tolerate some demanding engagement times.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Your own health and well-being are more important than your business.
