Make Your Finances Beautiful - DigiSuite Council
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in financial services but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Shay Davis, CEO of DigiSuite Council™, located in Atlanta, GA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are a one-stop shop for entrepreneurs to learn about the ins and outs of keeping their finances organized to grow profit and build multi-generational wealth.
Tell us about yourself
I'm a first-gen everything! I was the first in my immediate family to graduate college and enter Corporate America. After a decade in Corporate, I found myself getting bored after I hit a glass ceiling, and I knew it was time for a change. As a result, I knew it was my time to try my hand at being a first-gen entrepreneur. That's when The Money Council ® and DigiSuite Council™ were born.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I don't know where to start. It feels like waking up every day just to keep going is an accomplishment. Every day is something new and exciting to handle as an entrepreneur! While I spend most days wearing many different hats within my own firm, building a trusting community is the ultimate accomplishment.
In 2018, my social media goals were just to show up. And it took THREE years to build 1,200. In 2022, I got so consistent and fell in love with providing FREE VALUE that the community built itself. I basically started my profile from scratch and went from a community of 700 to 83,000, what few like overnight! During that process of community building, it taught me that starting with the value at the center makes everything 10 times easier.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Wearing ALOT of hats for business and life. Since 2020, I've been in learning mode from being a student in a Master's Accounting Program, a mom to twins, and growing a business! All of which require a different level of RECHARGEABLE energy packs. While it feels hard, it does not come without rewards.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Become mentally fit - Given that you wear multiple hats, it takes a lot of energy to know when to shapeshift between wearing a CEO hat vs. an independent and operational thinker hat. Refill your cup consistently so you don't crash and burn from your cup overflowing.
- Build a personal Board of Directors - As a creative thinker, I generate many dope ideas... so I've been told. However, you need to be able to mastermind with others to know which ideas are actionable and which ones you should pause from a consumer standpoint! I've had a lot of ideas fall flat because I didn't simply ask the question, "Do you get what I'm trying to do here." All big corporations have a Board of Directors, and small businesses should too!
- Set healthy boundaries - You have to make a promise to consistently show up for yourself before you can for others. If you show up with an empty plate, everyone starves! When you're asked to do things that go against your communal goals and objectives, you should be able to respectively and confidently say no.
