Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Adam Skowyra, Founder of Dietitian2Go, located in St. Louis, MO, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a registered dietitian and personal trainer offering nutritional services focused primarily on weight gain, weight loss, and weight maintenance. One main focus of my nutrition education is the concept of making an investment in your health now to reap the benefits in your older years.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in the healthcare field for over 13 years. During this time, I have seen many people that could've prevented ending up in the hospital had they made a few health changes earlier in their life. The ability to help people invest in their own health and stay healthy later in life is a strong motivator for me to keep going every day.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Putting myself out there and trusting my ability and knowledge in the field of nutrition and health.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Setting clear guidelines for yourself on when to stop working. Your personal time is just as important as your professional time.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Make a plan, and don't be married to it. You have to be flexible and adjust it over time.
  2. Don't depend on family and friends to give you an honest opinion on your idea. They will also support you no matter how bad it is. Instead, get the opinion of people that best match your intended clientele.
  3. Go for it; there is no magical time when you feel ready. You have to put yourself out there and be ready to fail. It's all part of the process that will make you more successful in years to come.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Never give up on your dream but be mindful of when it might be time to let go and switch gears. You never know what could be if you don't first let go of something else.
