Your Business is Your Calling - Diane Prince
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Diane Prince, founder of Diane Prince Co., located in Malibu, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I'm a former founder who has exited five times and now coaches and consults startup founders and business owners. I also founded a blog with the goal of making entrepreneurship easier at FoundersGoHere.com.
Tell us about yourself
What got me started on my first business, which we built to $50 million in 6 years, was the desire to see if I could actually do something like that. That's how I found my passion for building businesses of all types. I'm naturally motivated most days, but I've found that discipline is just as important as motivation. Some days I don't feel like doing all of the things -- that's when I need to tap into consistency and habits.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Having accomplished what less than one percent of business owners do, successfully selling a profitable bootstrapped business for eight figures, another one of my biggest accomplishments is to help other founders get unstuck and be successful.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The middle part. When things are working, you're making sales, and you have employees, it can be challenging for people who love to quickly build things to stay in the mindset of running the day-to-day operations of a business.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't wait until things are perfect, or even close to perfect -- no one really knows what they're doing, so just do it!
- Get clear on your own personal vision and why you want to be an entrepreneur. Otherwise, it's easy to fall into the trap of people pleasing and building your company for other people. That's the recipe for a house of cards.
- Sell! A business needs money, and sales come first. Make your first dollar as quickly as possible. Then you have a business, and the rest will follow.
