Teaching Aspiring Solopreneurs - Destiny Brown Consulting

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Destiny Brown, founder of Destiny Brown Consulting, located in Brampton, ON, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

When I started my business in 2016, I had to figure it all out on my own, which led to lots of trial and error. But I was able to book out my services as a Virtual assistant, replace my income and go full time, all within ten months of getting started. Since then, I have scaled my business to 6-figures and now offer Business management & consultation services as well as business coaching.

As a business coach, I help VAs and DFY Service Providers launch and grow a profitable service-based business using the skills they already have. I provide training, coaching, courses, strategy sessions, and digital products, all geared toward the growth of a profitable service-based business. I have supported over 150+ entrepreneurs through my service-based business and over 300+ aspiring solopreneurs through my coaching business.

Tell us about yourself

In 2014, I was teaching ESL English while I traveled to South America. I connected with some friends of mine that were entrepreneurs and, at the time, did something that I wanted to but could not in my current job or with my salary. After that reunion, my mindset changed. I started to believe more in myself and my abilities. I started to brush off those dreams I buried because of doubt and fear.

So I started my business to give me more freedom, get back my time, travel more, be more impactful, retire my mom and build her her dream home. Over the years, I have held on to those dreams, and I have been able to go far beyond what I had set out to do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Through my coaching business, I have been able to help 12 women get to 6-figures in their own businesses, which has gotten them to live life on their terms.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Trust the process, your timing, and your story will not be the same as someone else, but that doesn't make it worst. Do not get disappointed with a lack of support or perceived lack of progress. Just make a plan, keep focused, evaluate and keep moving. You are doing better than you think. We are always our worst critics.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start before you are ready; believe are not taking those first steps is the hardest. But that's just fear.
  2. Communication and boundaries are super important, and you need to establish this from the get-go with the terms of service or contract agreement.
  3. Because you can do it all doesn't mean that you should learn how to delegate and outsource in order to have a profitable and balanced business.
