UX And UI Designer - Designsbybiba
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Labiba Halim, Founder of designsbybiba, located in Dallas, TX, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is a web design, and my customers are diverse, anywhere from life insurance brokers to handmade jewelry makers. I love creating sites that fit their personality, allowing their audience to get to know them. It's all about their brand and products wise that help me to understand them plus their audience. As of right now, I'm currently rebranding to cater to creative clients who are interested in underground designs, trends, and elements that haven't been popularized. I'm hoping to launch my brand new site within the next month or so, along with creative projects.
Tell us about yourself
I got laid off from my previous job while still in school. My fiancé, who used to be a web designer for 7 years, introduced me to web design, and I fell in love with the idea of expressing my creativity. What motivates me each day is that I know I'm helping my clients to succeed with their brands. Also, I'm grateful that I can work from home, spend time with my cats and fiancé, and set my own schedule. I aspire to be the owner of a web design agency with a team.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is able to find a work partner that supports my ideas, gives me feedback, and works on creative projects together because it can get lonely as a business owner who only can do so much for herself. Having people around you to be your biggest supporters is extremely motivating. I know I want a team for a future web design agency, and we would be the biggest supporters of each other.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is knowing the worth and value of my services. That includes being selective with clients who see you as valuable and willing to pay for high-quality work rather than working with clients who see you as a tool to their means. This goes for any client that is not a good match, and it happens I usually refer them to someone else I trust.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Know your niche because that would help you to stand out from the competition.
- I know you want to jump at every opportunity that comes your way but take a step back and assess if it's well worth it for your well-being.
- Always rebrand yourself every few years and increase your rates after each client.
