The Interconnected Self - Des Caminos

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Des Caminos, Founder of The Interconnected Self LLC, located in Trabuco Canyon, CA, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am the creator and owner of The Interconnected Self LLC - a transformational coaching practice where we transform self-doubt into confidence and heal the ROOT causes of any perceived limitations. I am an embodiment life coach and intuitive somatic healer. I work with women who struggle with self-doubt. Whether that shows up as perfectionism, a LOUD inner critic, or overachieving. I guide them to a place of confidence and inner trust in themselves, so they have more energy, time fulfillment, and certainty in their ability to handle life’s challenges.

Tell us about yourself

I first got started in this business through Burlesque, actually! I am trained in different behavioral therapies, but I always felt like something was missing there, so I hung up my psychology shoes. After a few years of running a language school, I wanted more for myself and the women in the community. I started teaching Burlesque, focusing on movement and somatic therapy, to help women embody a version of themselves that they might not have known existed. It wasn’t just sexy dance moves… it was women taking off the layers of societal expectation and stepping out of the roles of mom, daughter, girlfriend, etc. I guided women to a place of power and confidence, and it was transformational (to say the least). When COVID hit, I saw a need in the community for more support, so I turned online and started offering free workshops on anxiety management, navigating triggering moments, and really just giving the community a set of tools so they could confidently handle all of life’s challenges and adventures!

My vision motivates me! My vision is to live in a world where women feel safe in expressing themselves, powerful in their capacity to thrive, and confident in who they are. I know that such a world exists, and women deserve that world. A world where women aren’t struggling with self-doubt, we don’t abandon ourselves for partners, and we can feel safe in saying no, choosing ourselves, and pursuing OUR desires.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishment (so far) has been my most recent ‘Embody Your Worth’ 3-Day Event. Every time I lead this event, it is so inspiring and downright breathtaking. Being able to witness women lovingly and safely address their fears, traumas AND feel more connected to themselves and who they really are is such a privilege. This last time, more women were involved, which meant more energy, support, and community! I have daily invitations that I offer the women to engage in, to truly bring inspired action into their lives!

Watching the transformation of the women who were committed and ready for a change from Day 1 to Day 3 gave me goosebumps and a full heart. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing women in their power.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

For me, the hardest thing is being a Solopreneur. It can feel really lonely and isolating, and when we are in that mentality of isolation, the brain plays tricks. As we feel isolated, that part of us that craves tribe and community begins to panic; it goes into survival mode. When that happens, well… those rude inner thoughts tend to creep out, which can lead to self-sabotage, feelings of defeat, and thoughts of self-doubt… It’s so important to find support as a business owner because no one should feel alone in their journey, whether it be personal or professional.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Trust yourself. Self-doubt can be consuming; it can lead to self-sabotage, perfectionism, action paralysis, anxiety… you get it. When we can trust ourselves, our business THRIVES. We don’t lose time in uncertainty; we have more energy because we aren’t in a state of stressful doubt. As a result, we make more money because we have more time, energy, and clarity.
  2. Have a vision that is bigger than your goals. This was a tip from Sage Lavine, and it is one hot tip! It’s so easy to get caught in the details, fear, or angst of something. Whether it’s going LIVE on social media, sending out emails, or speaking in front of 100 people.. or 1 person, it’s important to have a vision that is bigger than your goals because you are connected to your deep internal desire and are moving towards the bigger picture. It’s very easy to get overwhelmed or caught up in the small nuances and details of building a business, but in staying connected to the bigger picture, you remember why you are doing what you are doing in the first place.
  3. Don’t do it alone! Find a coach, a community, and find support. You deserve to have someone rooting for you as you celebrate your milestones and adventures. You deserve to have someone there to lend a hand when you take a step too big or too small and stumble. It’s not just about accountability, goal setting, etc. It’s about pushing past any fears or limiting thoughts and allowing others to lift you up when you need them and support you as you rise.
