What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a Holistic Transformational Health and Life Coach for professional women, specifically coaches and small business owners.

Tell us about yourself

To let you know where this talk is coming from and why I’m so passionate about helping women overcome obstacles and feel free to be themselves, I’ll tell you a quick story.

I’ve been a physical therapist and have been working in the healthcare field for a very long time. There was a time when I believed that health and happiness depended on the strength of the physical body—things like exercise and eating right. But then, my own life experiences put that idea into serious question. I was living in Australia and had married a New Zealander, a Kiwi. I thought I was perfectly healthy, but we were really struggling to get pregnant. I tried everything– I saw a doctor and a naturopath, changed my diet, and did all the things. It was a functional medicine practitioner that said, you are so healthy. You are doing all the right things, eating right, and exercising. But your mindset is killing you. And she referred me to an NLP coach.

The NLP coach, which NLP stands for neuro-linguistic programming, said that I was basically beating myself up with my own self-talk. I had taken on patterns of belief and thought patterns ever since living in an abusive household as a child that carried through to adulthood. She said that I was so hard on myself and really repeating these patterns and habits that were depleting me of my life force and energy. So, of course, I wasn’t going to make a child. I didn’t have it in me to do that. It was that experience with NLP that opened my eyes to a whole new me. I discovered how powerful the brain, mindset, and self-talk really are. If you had seen me before that time, you would not have even recognized me for who I am today.

That experience some two decades ago is what led me into my career as a Transformational Coach/Guide, now using tools like NLP and other mindset and coaching strategies to help other women overcome self-defeating patterns and really transform their lives. So I said that I had discovered the power of the mind and self-talk because I was struggling to get pregnant. I had grown up with an extremely abusive father, had taken on that pattern, and was on this broken record of beating myself up. When I went through the process of NLP and reprogramming my brain—and all the things that I now do for my clients—my hormones came back into balance, and I became pregnant at the age of 30. My son is now (whatever you want to say about your son). What I want you to take away from this is that change is POSSIBLE; if you didn’t believe that before this talk, my hope is that you believe it now.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I was able to help fellow healthcare professionals and educators during the pandemic. I was their guide, support person, and thinking partner to help them see how they were neglecting their mental, physical and emotional health so that they could create a new career path that felt more aligned with their passions and desires.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Being a solopreneur and juggling all of the business tasks while coaching and managing my household, being a mom and wife while still working as a physical therapist in the special education department.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

Figure out what brings you joy, fun, and purpose in life, get to know yourself so well that you understand the gifts, talents, and skills that you can offer to your ideal clients, and really get to know what your ideal client needs and wants and how you can use your skills and passion to help them.
