The Healing Journey - Debra Savage

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Debra Savage, a Health Coach & Patient Advocate based in Chandler, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I am a health coach/patient advocate. I work with chronic pain sufferers and help them navigate the very fractured healthcare system in order to obtain the best medical care possible. I provide them with an uplifting FB community where I share current medical research and ideas in order to empower my clients to take control of their own healing journey.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a chronic pain sufferer myself over the past nine years. I suffer from herniated discs, fibromyalgia, and severe arthritis. In prayer a few years ago, I heard God speak to my heart and say to turn my mess into my message. That is exactly what I have been doing. I worked for Harvard Medical School for 29 yrs, interviewing nurses on a longitudinal study called The Nurses Health Study. I have found proven methods and treatments in my own life that have helped me considerably in reducing my pain and getting back to a better way of life. What motivates me each day is knowing that I have the possibility of improving someone else's life for the better. I feel very strongly that this is what we are on this earth to do.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Seeing the positive change in the lives of my clients. It is such a wonderful feeling knowing that I can help a client move from feeling so depressed and defeated into a more uplifted and empowered life filled with joy and contentment even in the midst of pain.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

One of the hardest things that come with being a business owner is that all of the responsibility for success falls on you.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start with a great business idea and research your competition.
  2. Goal setting and planning are critical to success.
  3. Plan out your day and include some time for fun because, as a business owner, you can easily become too consumed with the business and leave no room for a life.
