What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help small business owners get their business better fast by transforming their business into a visual workplace. Improved employee involvement, quality, and productivity increase the business capability and capacity to make money and generate cash.
Tell us about yourself
After working as a public school teacher, a draftsman (automotive), an HR manager, and then a consultant at a quality improvement company, I went on my own 29 years ago. I felt employee involvement, process improvement, project management, and facilitation were the methods to rapidly improve a business. What motivates me? Helping small business owner improve their business fast.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Helping over 175 businesses, large and small, improve business performance.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Leaving the business (letting go of the bicycle seat). Too early may result in a crash (I failed to do my job). Too late may give an impression that I'm "milking the job." A very, very delicate process of letting go of the project.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Provide a product and/or service that helps the customer (Job To Get Done).
- Be humble and sincere in doing the work.
- Time and project management are the "cornerstones."
