The PROSALESGUY - Dave Warawa

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in training and development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dave Warawa, Founder of PROSALESGUY TRAINING, located in Comox, BC, Canada.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

My business is PROSALESGUY TRAINING. My customer base comprises small and medium-sized business owners who have experienced strong organic sales growth to date. We have two types of customers: #1 - Salespeople and Sales Managers who need sales training, coaching, and sales management training. Typically, the Salespeople are extremely well-versed in product knowledge; however, they lack specific sales skills to drive revenue higher on a consistent basis. Sales Training gives them the skill set. Sales Coaching ensures they customize the sales techniques to their personality and communication style for long-term results. Our second customer base consists of Business Owners and Entrepreneurs who are attempting to get to the next revenue level. They may lack the experience and expertise to do that. They need the successful creation and integration of sales planning and systems to achieve their goals moving forward.

Tell us about yourself

I have been a Salesperson, Sales Manager, and Corporate Sales Trainer for 35 years for large publicly traded companies that excelled at driving revenues higher consistently. Of all my career experiences, training Salespeople and Managers for success has been my life's passion. This comes from understanding consultative selling techniques that result in higher closing rates and repeat business and referrals. I'm motivated to continue to do what I do because of my drive to help business people succeed, empower those around them, and have fun along the way. I have no desire to retire because I'm having too much fun as an entrepreneur and business consultant.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

My biggest accomplishments include writing a book and operating a successful start-up company for ten years. My book SHUT UP, Stop Talking and Start Making Money was reviewed by forbes.com. Here's the link to the article that received over 11,000 views.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Full personal accountability for becoming an entrepreneur. You can't attribute the pandemic, economy, high-interest rates, or any outside factor to your success or lack thereof. It is 100% on your shoulders. So instead of being the victim of your situation, become the victor by forgetting about excuses and getting the assistance you need to be successful. In other words, "Dry your eyes Princess" and develop a mental framework for success by being mentally strong and resilient.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research and ensure that there's a success-based market for your product or service. Don't get intoxicated with your personal opinion on what would sell. Your customers don't really care what you think - they care about their needs and what you're going to do to deliver and over-deliver on expectations.
  2. Expect to have many challenges along the way. Find a mentor or business coach that you trust for guidance and assistance in your journey. The biggest challenge you probably will have is getting a consistent paycheck for at least a year as a business owner. Ensure your personal finances are healthy and have backup plans in place should your income become tight.
  3. Know that in the first few years of your business, you may sit with your head in your hands, saying, "What in the world was I thinking? No one prepared me for this." Self-employment is one of the toughest, most rewarding endeavors you can experience. It is for the brave who believe in delayed gratification and love the idea of being 100% in control of their destiny. Despite the challenge of starting and operating your own business, true entrepreneurs would never dream of working for someone else. They are fiercely independent and take pride in their decision to stop working for someone else.
