Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Al Da Silva, founder, and CEO of DaSilva Consulting, LLC, located in Memphis, TN, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

We are consulting company focusing on strategy, implementation, and execution serving small and midsized businesses in healthcare as a fractional operational executive.

Tell us about yourself

I am originally from Brazil. I came to the US in 1998 to go to college. I started as a pre-medicine student but changed my mind about becoming a doctor after completing my MBA degree from Union University. My professional experience has taken me from the manufacturing floor in quality and operations to hospital rooms as a Registered Nurse to the board rooms as a healthcare administrator to eventually owning my own business as a consultant. Each stage of my career has prepared me to do what I do today in helping businesses craft a strategy, implement key tactics for their businesses and execute at a higher level with increased profits and lower operating costs.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

We are about to launch the software to help businesses operate their businesses with better strategy, implementation, and execution. The software will provide an operational efficiency assessment, a way to complete the strategic business plan, and tools to implement the tactics and monitor the execution level. This software will combine years of business experience and best practices in one platform to make owning a business a much easier and more profitable experience.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

I believe it is balancing the challenge of being the entrepreneur, the manager, and the technician. Michael Gerber was right that making the appropriate transition in these areas determines how successful you will be as a business. I have to agree with him on this one.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Start with your vision. Understand your why and your passion.
  2. Understand your mission. What do you actually provide as a product or service?
  3. Align core values with your vision. Build a team that understands the vision and the mission of the business.
