Leadership • Mentorship • Coaching - Darren Hargrove

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Darren Hargrove, Founder of Innovative Directions Investment Group (IDIG), LLC., located in Elizabethtown, KY, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Our company tailors leadership development programs and provides effective communication, counseling, and team-building curricula. IDIG also offers individual, group, and executive coaching, specializing in organizational leadership.

In short, as experienced leaders who understand the importance of management, conflict resolution, and achieving goals and objectives, IDIG will help you build your A-Team. We target small and medium size businesses with an employee population between 50-100 individuals. Usually, those size businesses need an internal training department. We can offer a flexible and affordable leadership development plan.

Tell us about yourself

There was a time when we were called to a greater purpose than ourselves, and we volunteered to fulfill our nation's call by serving in the Armed Forces. There are also times when we must take a new route, walk on a different path of service, and empower individuals to build cohesive teams that allow them to operate with excellence.

Innovative Directions Investment Group (IDIG), LLC understands that path. It recognizes that organizations desire great productivity from their staff, and that is where IDIG extends its table, giving others the ingredients to have an entire pie instead of a piece. As veterans, the military taught the IDIG team how to transition from being lead to being the leader—a void they recognized as missing in certain employment institutions.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

A lot of our business stems from government contracts. Our most significant accomplishment as business owners is to win two major contracts in the same week after only being in business for two years.

What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?

Running a business is one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner. What you do well is only a tiny part of being a business owner. Running the business and learning everything that comes with it is the hardest, like business taxes, employee issues, networking opportunities, and the business's day-to-day business.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. You can't run your business by working for someone else. You have to make a time when you will focus 100% of your time and effort on your business and your business along.
  2. Find a few mentors that have been in business for a while to help answer questions and guide you through unforeseen issues.
  3. Ensure you have established financial resources like a line of credit or business loan. At some point, you will expand or need new equipment, so having that financial backing will come in handy in the long run.
