Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in personal and business development but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danny Jessop, Founder of DannySentMe, located in Lehi, UT, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I help large and small businesses in the US and Canada make it easier for their customers to do business with them. From professional sales training facilitation to simple websites and sales funnel landing pages to digital marketing and business cards to help them get found online and differentiate when networking to business coaching and mentorship.
Tell us about yourself
I lead by supporting. I am, first and foremost, a husband to my wife, Karla, and father of our five active children. Inspired by my dad's career in sales and my mom's warm and caring demeanor, I enjoy connecting with others, learning more about them and their businesses, and striving to ask engaging questions for understanding to help them identify gaps they may be challenged with. In doing so over time, my brother observed and pointed out that I'm always referring people to my network and have them share that "...Danny sent me..." when they reach out. Thus, DannySentMe was created. As I learned in becoming an Eagle Scout, I strive to leave others and my surroundings better than I found them with a value that applies to their situation and business.
When I near an end of a conversation and the person on the other end of the call says how pumped up and grateful they are after having a conversation with me, I am truly humbled and also grateful to have the opportunity to connect with them. This is what keeps me going day after day because it feels great to make a difference in the lives of those I serve.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
There are a lot of small wins that lead up to the big wins. Some of those small wins are in connecting with and developing relationships of trust with others. This has led to larger professional sales training facilitation with organizations implementing a defined sales process called Integrity Selling®. When I have a career salesperson share with me afterward, "I'm an old dog, and you've taught me some new tricks..." I know I've hit the mark.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
While it's fun to wear all the hats, so to speak, it's easy to get caught up in things that aren't producing results or feel like progress is not happening. However, I've found that when I am aware of and focus on what may be viewed as the seemingly mundane or boring tasks that need to be done, that slow and steady consistency is what ultimately will win the race.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Start today! I'm a big fan of the adage that done is better than perfect. It will never be perfect. Starting today will put you on the path of no regrets.
- Define your perfect customer. Think, write down, refine, and always go two levels deeper about who is your perfect customer and how you can help them.
- Find a mentor. Who is doing what you want to do, and what can you learn from them? Join their mastermind or coaching program. Engage in their content. Extract their lessons and apply them to your business.
