What's your business, and who are your customers?
Trove Tourism Development Advisors ("Trove") is a New York-based tourism development consulting and marketing agency with experience in developing marketing, branding, and tourism development strategies for destinations around the world. In particular, Trove partners with tourism boards to develop strong brands by using our proprietary digital tools and techniques. We work to improve the destination's standing in three areas: visitor growth, tourism investment, and meetings and events bookings. Our team has worked with 25+ destinations on game-changing campaigns and strategies.
Tell us about yourself
I'm the CEO of Trove Tourism Development Advisors (www.trovetourism.com). I started my business due to an experience that I had traveling to a lesser-known destination and just absolutely having it blow my expectations. I thought - wow - this destination had not stuck out to me before, but now it has. I am motivated every day by my team and client partners as they force me to continue to be creative and agile. I love what I do.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Building a team of 12 and serving 25+ destinations.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Limited sleep - but you have to learn how to balance to the best of your ability and not feel guilty for taking some time off.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't worry about large macro issues - like pandemics - when it comes to starting your business. I grew my tourism consultancy at a time when the tourism industry was dead.
- Focus on three words when talking to your team - "are you happy?" Keeping your team engaged and happy is more important than deadlines.
- Have daily, weekly, monthly, and yearly goals and actually put aside a focused 30 min at each interval to track them
