Get Found by the Right People! - Danielle Zeigler
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in marketing but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danielle Zeigler, a digital marketing and SEO strategist based in Pittsburgh, PA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I’m an SEO secret weapon + digital marketing strategist with over a decade of experience in the industry. My team and I provide human-to-human SEO and digital marketing services for purpose-driven businesses.
We work with marketing teams who are tired of trying to do All The Things and spreading their efforts too thin. They want to know what’s working, what’s not working, and how to authentically reach more of the right audience. These teams are typically already creating content but have gaps in the team when it comes to analytics, SEO, and content strategy.
My philosophy is grounded in people-first marketing and what I’ve dubbed #SEOwithSoul. I don’t believe in hacks and “beating algorithms” as a long-term strategy. Instead, I blend the analytical part of SEO with a lot of creativity (and experience) to give clients a holistic digital strategy that will help them attract their right people.
Tell us about yourself
I was an entrepreneur before I could spell the word. (I’m kidding. I still don’t spell it right on the first try.) I’ve always loved finding ways to serve people and make money doing it. As a kid and young teen, I hosted yard sales and created eBay stores. I built my own websites on Geocities. In college, I studied marketing but dabbled in graphic design, teaching, writing, research, and health and wellness for good measure.
Then, after a few unhappy years spent under the cold glow of a fluorescently-lit cubicle, I found a way to bring it all together — to blend my passions in psychology, sociology, marketing, and health and help others build businesses based on their personalities and strengths, too. Being able to make an impact in a variety of industries that matter to me, all while using my unique skills, is something that keeps me going. The people I meet and work with along the way also keep me inspired and motivated.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
While I’m always thrilled to see the success of client projects, I might be most proud of being able to hire and collaborate with amazingly talented people. Keeping this business alive and growing since ~2011 has been a wild ride.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Knowing when and what type of support to hire is a challenge. Especially for those of us who have built a business around our name, it can be hard to let go and delegate. However, it’s worth the effort to test and adjust as you continue stepping into the leadership role.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don’t wait until everything is perfect to start (the business, promoting an offer, etc.) Clarity and confidence come from taking action.
- You don’t have to be everywhere and do everything. Leverage tools and technology, but don’t lose sight of your strengths and experience. It can be as simple as choosing a platform/way of communicating that YOU love and one your ideal audience loves.
- Find a community of like-minded people who can relate to the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.
