Creating Timeless Works of Art - Danielle Bustamante
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in photography but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Danielle Bustamante, Owner of Danielle Bustamante Photography, located in Derry, NH, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a portrait photographer that specializes in Newborn and Maternity Photography. Most of my clients are referrals and returning clients. Clients typically reach out a few months prior to their due date to book a Maternity session and/or a newborn session. I also offer Milestone Sessions at 3 months of age, 6-7 months of age when the baby is sitting on their own, and one-year sessions.
Tell us about yourself
As with most professional photographers, I started out at a young age playing with a camera and having a fascination with photography. I graduated with a BA in Advertising Photography from Brooks Institute of Photography in 2000 and slowly started building my own business. Over the years, I realized that newborn photography was really what I wanted to focus on and work my business around. Specializing in newborn photography has allowed me to grow and evolve my work. I love the challenge of creating art while working with a newborn baby.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment as a business owner is when I realized that almost all of my clients continue to come back to me for each child they welcome into the world, for each milestone, for every family portrait, and they refer their friends and family. It's rewarding, and it helps me realize that others see value in my work.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
I think my biggest challenge as a business owner has been setting a schedule and sticking to it. Working for yourself takes a lot of self-discipline. You have to know your own weaknesses and find a way to overcome them so you can be successful.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- I recommend setting a schedule for each day to stay on track.
- Set goals for yourself and your business. It will help you gauge your success when you can look back at where you started and where you are in the present moment.
- Accept failure. We learn the most from trying and trying again.
