What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Mindset Coach and Mentor. I work predominately with women who are overworked and underpaid. They know that they have more of an impact to make in the world but don't know "how" and find themselves stuck or getting stopped and settling. Their desire for more drives them; however, it often has them feeling guilty as well. They have had success in their life, and the little voice in their head says, "Can't you be happy with what you've got." They already have worked hard and now what to learn to work smarter by leveraging the Universal Laws and learning to master their mindset.
Tell us about yourself
I was the overworked woman that I described above. I had a career in food tourism and was at the top of my field. On the outside, it looked like I had it all. A thriving career, was married, and had a daughter, but on the inside, I was miserable. I wanted to work for myself. I jumped into network marketing as a way to open the door as an entrepreneur and assumed I would go straight to the top, and I fell flat on my face. So, I did what anyone would do; I worked harder and sacrificed more of my family time to prove that working hard pays off. I read all the personal development books and took all the training from the network marketing company, and my results hardly shifted. The more I worked, the more frustrated I became. I thought something was wrong with me. I wasn't good enough, and I became extremely negative and started drinking to cope with the failure. I ended up quitting my corporate job, thinking that if only I had more time to focus on my business, I would be successful. That did not help; it only got me further into debt. And then the debt started to cripple me. I had a breakdown and decided that I had to figure this out, and I was willing to do whatever it takes to be successful. I vowed that I would teach others once I figured it out. I ended up investing in a 6-month program and borrowed credit cards to just pay the deposit. My husband was against my decision because we didn't have the money. The truth is I felt like I didn't have a choice. I leaned into the program and became very coachable; within six months, I tripled my income, I became #3 in sponsorship in Canada, and I started winning awards. My team was growing at record speeds, and all of a sudden, my business started working. What happened? I changed from the inside. I went to the root cause of my results, and I changed the root cause. And if I can, anyone can. Success is a science; there is a method. I now teach that method. And I jump out of bed every morning on a mission to help women who think there is something wrong with them, who are overworked and know that they are meant for more. With a change in mindset, their world changes. It can be that simple.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I used the same material I coach in my own business. I am a product of the product. I used this material to become one of Bob Proctor's proteges. I was one of his top 5 consultants in the world (and there are thousands of coaches). I had the privilege of being mentored directly by him and am grateful to call him a friend. I am carrying on his legacy through my purpose and passion to not have anyone settle.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
My own mindset. Success is tricky. And often, when we experience success, a person can forget what got them the success. This has happened to me, and I have a tendency to beat myself up like I should know better - I am a coach. So one of the hardest things for me has been asking for help and delegating to my team. This is especially important when our current results or circumstances are not what we want or are challenging; it is important to stay focused on your vision. I've learned to lean into the material at this point and learn to lead and discipline myself. This has been hard. I am responsible for myself.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Invest your time and money into mentorship - the reality is it will save you time (which is money). You'll earn money faster in your business, giving you more confidence to overcome the challenges in the future.
- Create a big vision for yourself and your business that is far beyond what you think you can achieve - have the courage to declare it to yourself (and perhaps not share it with many people).
- Surround yourself with like-minded people who believe in you and lift you up.
