Ditch Hot Flashes & Start Sleeping! - Dana LaVoie, LAc

Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dana LaVoie, LAc, an acupuncturist, herbalist, and educator, based in Eugene, OR, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

I help women use customized natural remedies for managing menopause symptoms and slow, healthy aging.

Tell us about yourself

I've been working as an Acupuncturist & Herbalist specializing in women's health and menopause for over 20 years. And when I realized how many women weren't getting the help they needed with managing menopause, I decided to find a way to share what I knew with more women. Because women in midlife - at the peak of their wisdom - deserve to feel great. And every time a woman posts in my Making Menopause Easy online program student community something like this, it confirms I'm doing this thing that I'm so passionate about, "Good morning! It's been a month since I started the program, and I just looked back at my menopause discomforts list, and I'm happy to report some major improvements! The list was long, about 9 items, but I decided to concentrate on 3 main issues: hot flashes, uncontrolled stress/anxiety and tinnitus resulting from allergies. Hot flashes have gone from a 10 to a 5, as has the tinnitus, and stress management is no longer an issue at all! Additionally, several other discomforts have improved as well."

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

Finding a way to take customized natural remedies based on the full power and complexity of Chinese Medicine and make them accessible to more women via an online program and coaching membership!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

Staying focused on the most important activities each day.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Take action: Set your first goal, keep it simple at first, lay out the steps needed to reach it, and begin. You'll learn so much along the way - but you have to take action to learn - you can't figure out ahead of time what will work and what won't.
  2. Complete one goal before starting the next. Don't get distracted!
  3. Every day remind yourself of your WHY and the service you're providing that's changing people's lives. Keep that feeling when creating your products and promotional materials.
