Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Dan LeMoine, CEO of re:vitalize weight loss & wellness, located in Phoenix, AZ, USA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

Have you ever tried losing weight only to feel like it comes back on the very moment you daydream about a carb? We've been there too.

If you've ever wrestled losing weight (it was coming off way too slow) or had trouble maintaining once you got to your goal (you gained 5lbs the moment you walked by the donut shop), then you're the person we are passionate about helping.

Let's be clear...our preconceived notions about how to lose weight are outdated and one-dimensional.

Our modern-day weight struggles go deeper than calories in/calories out because our metabolisms are getting all jacked up (technical term) because of the stresses of modern-day life. Things like menopause, breakups, job stress, the birth of kids, and environmental toxins take a toll on our internal biochemical environment, and in turn, our metabolisms start to slow. This metabolic slowdown makes it harder and harder to maintain a healthy weight.

At re:vitalize (and with our book Fear No Food), we are taking a customized approach to weight loss with a suite of technology and program that removes the guesswork out of what an individual's body needs to lose weight and heal the metabolism. Why? Because cookie-cutter diets just don't work.

Tell us about yourself

The common thread in my career has been looking for ways to build meaningful organizations that are addressing tangible problems in the world. I believe we should be able to build profitable companies that also advance the common good. So whether that's been on the non-profit side of the table or now finding myself on the for-profit side of the things, that is the common theme.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

I've had fizzled side hustles, half launched ideas, and even a couple of folded startups before making it happen with re:vitalize. I once heard that getting a business up and running is kind of like getting a rocket into space. While I'm no Elon Musk, my understanding is that rockets burn so much fuel and take so much energy to get out of the gravitational pull of the earth and into orbit. It's kind of like getting a business off the ground too.

My biggest accomplishment is simply getting our business off the ground, finding market fit and seeing people loving what we're doing (and transforming their lives in the process), and building a team of about 30 employees...that's a huge accomplishment in my book!

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There's a lot that's challenging about being an owner. Hands down, the most trying aspect is the emotional rollercoaster of owning a business is. I am constantly having to be aware of and master my emotions in order to make sound decisions and lead well.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Keep trying until you find something.
  2. Consider buying an already existing, profitable business vs. starting something from nothing.
  3. Don't forget about unsexy, in-real-life businesses. It seems like everyone in the startup game is always trying to invent the next Instagram or get on the cover of FastCompany. Yet there are so many wonderful businesses that are just as fun (and easier) to build, are more profitable, and are solving an actual real-life need that people will pay for.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?

Don't forget to have fun.
