What's your business, and who are your customers?
I write books and eBooks as well as create eCourses, audio, and video. I run a number of YouTube channels, sharing psychology and neurology, self-help knowledge, and therapeutic sleep stories.
Tell us about yourself
I started my interest in hypnosis and meditation back in the early 1990s as a child and young teenager to try to help myself with some of the challenges of being autistic. I started working in mental health in the late 1990s and with children and teens in the early 2000s, transitioning to broader family work around 2007. I started running hypnotherapy courses in 2003 and have had an accredited clinical hypnotherapy practitioner diploma since 2007.
I have been creating digital content since 2004, initially self-help mp3s and training videos, and since 2007, I've been sharing my content on YouTube and other digital content platforms. What motivates me is a mixture of trying to be helpful and getting ideas, and wanting to turn them into reality.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Reaching over 100,000 subscribers on one of my YouTube channels.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Constantly having to develop new ideas and having to always remain in people's awareness.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Plan what you want to achieve and the steps to achieving this, making sure what you write is all within your control and realistic.
- Be prepared to put in hard work with potentially little financial reward over the short term.
- Focusing on building your community is most important.
