What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a Lifestyle Portrait and Wedding Photographer. My clients are folks who are adventurous, open, and ready to take on love. I tend to photograph a lot more intimate weddings and elopements, more than the traditional 10-hour day weddings.
Tell us about yourself
Ironically, I didn't start out in photography doing weddings. I started as a Studio Assistant in a local Brooklyn studio. Eventually, I wanted to try something else, and weddings seemed like the next best thing to try. At that point, I had only photographed one wedding. I didn't know what I was doing, so I connected with Amy Anaiz as she was seeking an assistant. Since then, I've gained the knowledge and skills to fully launch into photographing weddings and developing my own style. What motivates me each day? Love. Giving people the space to show each other love and just being a witness to it.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Right now, my biggest accomplishment as a business owner is using this as a source of income and feeling as though I'm walking toward my purpose.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Consistency and discipline. Sometimes, it can get lonely if you don't have a team, affecting your consistency/discipline and even your mental health.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Find your community. You need one. You can't do this on your own.
- Be flexible. There's only so much you can control. Focus on what you can't control, and be flexible and open to flow.
- Keep learning. You've never arrived. There's always room to improve.
