What's your business, and who are your customers?
My business is Cynthia Jan Health, a business focused on natural health, including nutrition, lifestyle, and mindset. I use a "whole-body approach" and therefore work with people from all walks of life. Prevention is key, but I often meet people who already have some health issues and want to work on improving their condition and quality of life.
Tell us about yourself
I am a Certified Holistic Nutritional Practitioner who graduated in Natural Nutrition from the Canadian School of Natural Nutrition in 2017 and have my Level 1 Certification in Precision Nutrition. I am a university graduate with a Bachelor of Arts in Human Relations and a Certificate in Family Life Education. I am currently studying Naturopathic Medicine to obtain my ND (Naturopathic Doctorate) designation at L’École d’enseignement supérieur de naturopathie du Québec. Like most people in the alternative medicine world, I turned to natural nutrition to help myself and my loved ones. My passion for natural health started over two decades ago when my mother was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes and other related health conditions. But everything changed after having my daughters. My youngest had gastrointestinal issues, anxiety, and severe eczema from a very young age. After two decades in the workforce, I left the corporate world to follow my true passion and work on helping my daughter get through the issues. For years, I implemented dietary changes focusing on gut health as well as stress-management techniques with my daughter to help resolve the issues.
I am passionate about healthy living and look forward to sharing nutrition and lifestyle tips with individuals who are interested in prevention and health improvement. Healthy eating, a positive lifestyle, and a peaceful mind are truly key to preventing disease and enjoying what life has to offer!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is when I receive positive feedback from my clients. It's when the recommendations I gave them actually help change their lives. It's when they feel better when their symptoms are diminished or resolved completely. Seeing my clients progress toward better health is truly my greatest accomplishment.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
I am running my business while studying full-time and being a mom of two daughters and a wife. As most of us know, life can get very busy, and having a business definitely adds to life's daily challenges. I'd say the hardest thing is managing everything without any assistance.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Write down all your ideas, don't tell yourself you'll remember; you probably won't.
- Don't be afraid; get out there, showcase your business and your talent, ask people for feedback, and be open to all types of criticism.
- Don't wait to be ready; just jump right in. We learn best while in action.
