What's your business, and who are your customers?
I create illustrations for greeting cards and stationery products. I sell wholesale to the most wonderful stores, including small boutique shops, bookstores, museums, salons, yoga studios, and even an ostrich farm! My customers are people who enjoy nature, animals, and flowers, detailed, lush illustrations, and staying connected with family and friends through art and the joy of hand-written notes.
Tell us about yourself
My dream when I started my business was to raise and support a family while finding a way to continue making art at the same time. My first company motto was "stress less." I'm now living this dream of mine, stressing a similar amount and continuously figuring out how to balance two kids and a busy business. My new motto is similarly to slow down and enjoy. I strive to create amazing memories with the people I love and make art to celebrate the happiness in my life.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am amazed at how many greeting cards I sell that reach and help connect people all over the world! I'm currently in 750+ stores. It is a huge accomplishment to me that people love my art and continue to support me.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Balancing all the hats. I used to think the hardest thing was getting everything done; now, I think it is choosing what to get done.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- There's room in the world for what you want to do.
- Life is too short and health too fragile, not to be doing what you want, what makes you happy.
- Small steps every day while trying not to get overwhelmed.
