Tell us about yourself

I originally went to college for journalism - I loved being the editor-in-chief of my high school's newspaper, so I thought that was what I wanted to do for a career. In school, however, I quickly realized that my passion is not writing, interviewing, reporting, or editing - but I took a New Media course and realized that it was graphic design (the laying out of everything on the page that I did in high school as editor), that fueled me.

I then switched focus and became an expert in design, marketing, and websites. When the opportunity came to purchase the family printing business from my aunt, I knew it was the perfect way for me to bring my background in marketing and design to my community. I wanted to show that young women can do anything they set their minds to.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

One of the biggest accomplishments that I am most proud of is being a women-owned and operated business in a traditionally male-dominated industry. I have worked hard to break through the barriers and stereotypes that are often associated with companies run by women. There have been times when I feel like I am fighting an uphill battle, but in the end, I know that I am doing something that is making a difference. I am showing other women that anything is possible if you put your mind to it.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

There are many challenges that come with being a business owner. However, for female business owners, the challenges can sometimes feel especially daunting. One of the biggest challenges that female business owners face is overcoming gender bias. Studies have shown that women are often underestimated and passed over for promotions and opportunities. This can make it difficult for them to get their businesses off the ground. However, there are ways to overcome these challenges.

One is to build a strong support network of family, friends, and colleagues who can offer advice and assistance when needed. Another is to be relentless in your pursuit of success and never give up, even when things get tough. By staying focused on your goals and working hard, you can overcome any obstacle in your way.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

  1. Do your research. Before you start your business, make sure you understand the industry you're entering and the competition. Know your target market and how to reach them.
  2. Have a business plan. A business plan is essential for any new business. It will help you outline your goals and strategies, and it will be a roadmap for your business.
  3. Network. Networking is important for any business, especially a new one. Attend events and meet people in your industry. You never know who you might meet that can help your business grow.

Is there anything else you'd like to share?
