Boston's Finest Coffee and Savory Pies - Cuppacoffee
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Todd Moore, founder of Cuppacoffee Boston, located in Quincy, MA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Cuppacoffee is the fine purveyor of espresso-based coffees. We boast the largest menu in Boston. We also provide iconic Australian foods like meat pies, anzac cookies, and Lamingtons. Our customers are customers that want a true coffee experience. A customer that tastes the difference from our competition, both chain and independent coffee shops alike.
Tell us about yourself
Cuppacoffee was founded in 2010 however did not open till after a lengthy construction process till 2013. I started Cuppacoffee in Boston primarily due to a lack of the attention that is required to make a great coffee experience. Cuppacoffee provides a great espresso-based coffee while creating an inviting and friendly experience for our customers. I started Cuppacoffee to give Boston the same feeling I get when I am in Australia a great coffee experience. A cities coffee culture is real, and Boston now has a place to experience that.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is to open my second store in two years of opening my first. This was my claim to fame, so to speak, without backing from angel investors. However, that has been morphed by surviving the COVID 19 pandemic, which compliments my staff, landlord, and the company's ability to adjust quickly to mobile espresso-based models.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing in Boston is the winter weather. Staffing and keeping things unique.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Make sure that you do as much research as you can. Find a mentor that is willing to give you the time to educate you on the business. And understand you should be prepared to work in the industry to understand all facets. Owners should lead by example.
