Earth Aligned Wellness - Cultivate Balance
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in health and wellness but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Molly McConnell, Ayurvedic Practitioner of Cultivate Balance, located in Sacramento, CA, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
Cultivate Balance is an intentional (intersectional) Ayurvedic wellness practice. Our mission is to build individual and collective resilience through Ayurvedic Lifestyle Design as a key strategy for growing our capacity to embody the just and sustainable world we know is possible. We leverage the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda as a key strategy for cultivating resilience in response to modern challenges such as overwork, chronic stress, lack of access to nourishing food, inequity, racism, multigenerational trauma, pollution, and climate change. Our virtual and in-person offerings are intended to be inclusive and accessible — ranging from online lifestyle programs and virtual workshops to on-site seminars and personal consultations. Our work is intentionally oriented to be in service of movement builders, change-makers, and thought leaders — people who are striving for a more compassionate world but may need support in cultivating and maintaining the resilience that enables us to keep working toward this shared mission.
Tell us about yourself
I am a Certified Ayurvedic Practitioner, as well long-time yoga teacher/student, committed to living intentionally and supporting others in their process to do the same. I strive to uplift themes of collective wellness and radical self-love in all that I do. I believe that a more compassionate world is possible and that we have an opportunity to co-create alternative solutions together. But first, we must know ourselves — we must re-cultivate the ability to listen to our bodies, to understand our needs, and to believe that we are worthy of our own love. In this process, radical self-care gives rise to collective wellness. With a bachelor’s degree in Women & Gender Studies and more than 2,000 hours of Ayurvedic study and clinical experience at Alandi Gurukula, I am a lover of both learning and unlearning. I am humbled to share this ancient wisdom as it intersects with more contemporary movements of feminism, liberation, and justice. Through my own practice of radical self-care, I strive to remain curious and patient — creating more space for inspiration, connection, and deep focus.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Witnessing my clients come home to their bodies and feel empowered to understand their needs and honor them through everyday diet and lifestyle choices.
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
Wearing lots of hats.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Confidence is key, but be gentle with yourself too.
- Collaborate as much as possible.
- Remember to rest.
