Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Eric Levesque, co-founder and managing partner of Cultivatd, located in Cornwall, ON, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
We are indoor farm brokers - put simply, we match your project with the right solution, saving you time and money. We want to see all who enter the vertical farming industry succeed. Because of this, we offer the majority of our services for free! Our customers range from smaller hobby farmers looking to deploy small commercial solutions to help shorten the supply change and offer better produce to their local communities, all the way to larger conglomerates looking to do the same at scale!
Tell us about yourself
At Cultivatd, we believe that everyone who enters the industry is becoming a part of the solution. We aim to offer a complete education and work with industry-leading companies to satisfy our quickly growing clientele best. We find our motivation by deploying farms in local communities and food deserts, helping people get access to better, cleaner food in a timely manner.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Only one year after its inception, Cultivatd has already raised seed and A round of equity financing. We are also launching a capital fund with a minimum subscription of 50 million USD this month to help see more projects linked to our brokerage get off the ground!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
It's important to make time for yourself and not let your business swallow up all of your time. Take a step back every once in a while and appreciate the process.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Just get started. The solution will never be perfect and should always be evolving.
- Be frugal - Invest your time over your money until you've proven your concept.
- You want to build a team that truly shares your vision - treat your employees the way you'd like to be treated by your employer.
