Tell us about yourself
I am a happily married man to my wife, Maria, with a 14-year-old son with who I am very active in his life. It was always a passion to see people operating at their full potential from a higher level of confidence to fulfill their goals, ever since overcoming my own limiting beliefs 24 years ago and fulfilling my goals in business. Over 24 years ago, I was caught up with self-limiting beliefs that impacted my confidence, decision-making, ability to take calculated risks, take massive action, and communicate in a negative way. It also included struggling with these self-limiting beliefs from 12 years of addiction.
It was a choice to transform at that time and five years later make leaps and bound changes in where my confidence grew and helped me to master my communication skills, active listening with others, build deeper rapport with people and clients, and ability to make more decisive decisions, take calculated risks, and massive action. It was a daily routine each day and something I have done for over 24 years that shifted my thinking from a fixed to a growth mindset with the mental toughness to fulfill my business goals and help others do the same.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The ability to help people first make everlasting change within themselves to accomplish extraordinary things they originally could not imagine in their business. I am very proud to help management for a leading mid-size company in the healthcare service space to change their thinking over time as an organization to see profound changes in employee engagement, retention, production, and efficiency, and eventually reflected in their bottom line.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
The hardest thing about being a business owner is to adapt to change or learn to let go of the control you cannot control. Learning to master what you can control daily and let go of everything else. It's about trusting the process.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
There are three tiers to success in any business. The first is the foundation. Your foundation is built on how you think as a company from mental toughness, which is the moment and not in the past and future. It's the ability to trust the process and where each person in your organization understands their role and duties and each other. They communicate from a higher level through active listening and being specific, clear, and concise rather than based on assumption and speculation. They learn to generate results at the moment, only focused on what they can control and not tied to expectations of the outcome. They lead by intention and not expectation. They build rapport with each other by connecting on shared core values and, through effective communication, can create higher engagement to generate better results and create valuable experiences with their clients.
The second tier is preparation. This is where an organization learns to follow a routine at the individual, team, and organization levels on habits, disciplines, and tasks that serve them and the company to move forward. It brings people together in an interdependent versus codependent way and complements versus depends upon one another. This accountability at the individual, team, and company levels is the difference between average to extraordinary results and experiences.
Finally, the last tier is measurement. Without consistent measurement, an organization, team, and individual cannot grow. It's learning to put into play custom KPIs or key performance indicators that track progress and allow the individual, team, and company to spend their time wisely on tasks that are working versus not to move forward.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
Give without expectation and receive without resistance. It's a statement that, when practiced daily, can change an organization from ordinary to extraordinary over time. It's giving without expectation from empathy and kindness and not from pleasing or enabling people while receiving from wherever it comes from that serves in a positive way.
