What's your business, and who are your customers?
Crossed Sabers Coffee Co. is where coffee-loving folks can purchase the best-tasting organic coffee beans, grounds, or K-Kups. Every bag is roast-to-order and packed and shipped within 48 hours.
Tell us about yourself
I started thinking about a coffee company while deployed to the Middle East. When drinking coffee from a bag in an MRE (meal ready to eat), you tend to miss fresh-roasted coffee. I didn't want a brick-and-mortar business but couldn't figure out the best option without holding a ton of inventory and needing the capital to do it. It wasn't until Shopify's dropshipping component gave me the idea to offer it all through e-commerce. I love coffee. My motivation is knowing that I can offer the freshest coffee possible.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
The launch of this business is the most significant accomplishment. How many people think about a business or idea and never bring it to reality?
What's one of the hardest things that comes with being a business owner?
The late nights and constant budgeting. Everyone wants you to buy their service or advertise on their platform. Due diligence and sticking with a budget is complex, but it will work out if you need emergency funds or can increase your budget.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Make sure its foundation is solid before you launch, and if it has a website for purchasing products, ensure all bugs are fixed.
- Tell your story. Anyone can sell a product, but tell the consumer why this is your product and how you decided to sell this product.
- Use all forms of media so that you can be visible.
