Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Joe Thompson, owner of CRISP Catering, located in Sacramento, CA.

What's your business, and who are your customers?

CRISP Catering serves clients the best items available at reasonable pricing with top-notch service. We are a family-owned business in Sacramento, CA that relies heavily on the community that we serve.

Tell us about yourself

I have been in the foodservice industry for 40 years I realized at an early age that I loved to see people smile. Nothing brings us together more than food. Seeing people together eating food that I have created, really warms my heart.

What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?

The fact that we are still around after 2 years of dealing with the pandemic. The fact that we have been able to keep most of our employees busy, really makes me proud.

What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?

The feeling of "loneliness" that comes with the job.  When you are struggling, especially financially, it doesn't seem there is anyone to talk to.  You don't want to scare your staff.  Sleepless nights worrying about how to keep everything going.

What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?

1) Have a love for serving people - it's not the HUGE moneymaker most people think it is.

2) Have plenty of Capital.

3) Be prepared to work long hours with no financial gain.

Anything else you'd like to share?

This industry can be very rewarding for the right person.
