What's your business, and who are your customers?
I am a professional makeup artist specializing in weddings, special events, photo shoots, video shoots, personal makeup shopping, and makeup classes! I love to help people who want to enjoy makeup and love wearing it! Wearing makeup should be a joyful experience every time! I specialize in a polished, classic style of makeup that photographs beautifully, and you still see yourself in the mirror!
Tell us about yourself
I have always loved playing with makeup since I was a child. I always played with those little makeup kits for little girls as a child. Growing up, I learned that Makeup Artist was a real career! Once I became an adult, I graduated from the Elizabeth Grady School of Esthetics and became a licensed esthetician. Along with the skincare education, I also learned makeup artistry! After graduating and passing my state board in 2013, I jumped into the field of makeup artistry and started assisting and working for local makeup artists. Then, in 2017, I started Creative Contour By Carla!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
My biggest accomplishment is starting and maintaining a successful makeup artistry business! I have amazing customers and have been focusing on my personal clientele on their special days. It's such a treat!
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
One of my biggest struggles was understanding that growth comes with hard work and consistency and that growth doesn't come overnight. As a business owner, you need to be prepared for ups and downs, busy times, and lulls! And be ready to adapt to an ever-changing world.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Have patience with yourself, be willing to accept constructive criticism, and provide excellent customer service.
