What's your business, and who are your customers?
Cakes, cheesecakes, and cookie cakes. (I do focus a little more on the cheesecake end of it) Anyone who loves to celebrate with a sweet treat. I love to make people smile with dessert.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Alexis Moeller, I am 36, and I moved to Polk city last summer… I made my mom's birthday cake in January of 2020. I posted a picture of the cake on Facebook, and I had no idea that it would blow up the way it did. I wish I still had a picture of that cake. I had no idea what was in the store with COVID quickly approaching, but I had plenty of time to practice with the extra time I had, and boom, Cake creations by Alexis was born!
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
Getting my cheesecakes into the restaurants where they are being sold but generally the whole business aspect! I have 100% surprised myself with this. I love every minute of it. The support I have gotten is unbelievable.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Honestly finding time to juggle family and a business and still working part-time at Louie's Wine Dive. It's a work in progress every day.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Slow down and study every aspect of what you want out of your business to be like. It's not a race; there is room for everyone to be active in the community, business-wise. Enjoy it. Being able to own your own business is one of the greatest opportunities you can have. Being your own boss is totally worth it all. Don't be afraid to ask questions!
