Bringing People Together - Create Your Curry
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey in food and beverage but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Bidisha Nag, founder of Create Your Curry, located in Columbus, OH, USA.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
This is a unique cooking school where you come as a stranger and leave as a friend. I walk you through the wonderful world of colorful ingredients and spices and help you create food customized to your taste and preference.
Vegetarian or vegan? I will make it all happen. No meat – only fish? Can't wait to share the possibilities with you! Are gluten, butter, and sugar your thing? Bring it on! I will help you prepare both traditional and popular Indian dishes from her homeland, as well as share my wisdom about customizations and regional fare using simple spices and even simpler cooking techniques.
Tell us about yourself
My name is Dr. Bidisha Nag, founder, owner, and instructor at Create Your Curry draw inspiration from my family and friends and from my diverse and interesting life experiences. My love for food, travel and culture developed as a child when I often sailed with my marine engineer father, mother, and sister to faraway lands. It also came from my family, where radical hospitality was practiced, and everyone—friends, family, and strangers—was welcomed with open arms.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
I am a proud believer in the fact that sharing food is a way to build relationships and bridge differences. Create Your Curry is the platform I created to share the traditions and cultural aspects of Indian food as a means to bridge differences and dispel the fear of the unknown. Food, the "single great unifier" of cultures, not only feeds the body but also the soul. Create Your Curry "unifies" people from diverse walks of life, building relationships and building community, one meal at a time.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Uncertain times like COVID.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
- Don't give up!
- Follow your dreams.
- Constantly look for opportunities.
