Machine Learning With a Human Touch - Creascience
Interested in starting your own entrepreneurial journey but unsure what to expect? Then read up on our interview with Natalie Rodrigue, co-founder of Creascience Inc., located in Val-Morin, QC, Canada.
What's your business, and who are your customers?
My partner and I are mathematicians/statisticians, and we founded Creascience in 2000. Before that, we both worked for several governmental agencies. We observed that most people who do not have a math/stat background tend to use the same tools. We believe that for each problem, there is a unique solution; hence the "creative science" ring to our company name.
Over the past 30 years, our biostatistics unit has developed renowned expertise in preclinical research and statistical support for laboratories. Simultaneously, our data analysis and modelling unit have become a leader in quantitative methods for business applications and market research. We offer statistics and machine learning/predictive analytics consulting services and corporate applied training sessions in this field.
Our business analytics unit offers state-of-the-art quantitative tools to implement advanced business analytics procedures. Our mastering of the most recent statistical methods in modelling, data mining, and market research allows us to offer custom problem-solving solutions. Our area of expertise includes credit scoring, consumer segmentation, and HR risk management modelling.
Tell us about yourself
We wanted to create something, and we both did not want to depend on a boss. We knew what people lacked, and we developed a strong ability to explain complex math/stat concepts in layman’s terms.
What's your biggest accomplishment as a business owner?
We offer custom solutions that combine creativity with scientific rigour. We pride ourselves on being able to communicate methodology and results in a non-technical fashion.
We are proud to have founded this company and built strong and long-term relationships with big companies in the pharma, food, aviation & aeronautics, mining & metal, and semiconductor industries.
What's one of the hardest things that come with being a business owner?
Finding reliable and competent employees.
What are the top tips you'd give to anyone looking to start, run and grow a business today?
Be ambitious and persevere.
Is there anything else you'd like to share?
We started doing predictive analytics and machine learning long before it got trendy, and people without a solid math/stat background started getting into it.
